I'm Kuan-Chia Chiu (邱冠嘉), a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Physics at National Taiwan University.

I study how charge currents are converted into spin currents and play with interesting emergent materials: spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance, spin-orbit torque, and more recently the orbital Hall effect.

Away from the lab, I write in Tâi-gí (Taiwanese), and I spend a lot of time in the water.

Most of what I post here is working notes. Derivations I wanted written down properly, analysis workflows, and the occasional paper review.

Tâi-gí (writing in Taiwanese)

I write part of this site in Tâi-gí, using Tâi-lô romanization mixed with Han characters.

Much of it comes out of reading groups and 開講 (khai-káng) sessions: a series on the history of Taiwanese literature, notes on tools and input methods, and write-ups of talks I've given.
